The Crying Spell

The Crying Spell are an American electronic rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 2008. The group consists of Len Hotrum (lead vocals, guitar, synthesizers), Eric Snyder (guitars), Chase Culp (drums) and Kevin Preston (synthesizers).
Their sound blends electropop with new wave and modern elements. The Crying Spell described their sound as "modwave".
==History==

In 2006, The Crying Spell was formed when Hotrum and Snyder started writing music together on the side and soon decided to dedicate their full attention to this band. They were joined by Chase Culp and Johnny Bacolas and also added a second guitarist, Dane Brooks. In July 2008, the band independently released their 1980s-influenced debut album ''Through Hell to Heaven'' and distributed it through their own website, iTunes, and Amazon.com. They also played their first show together in the same year. In 2010, Bacolas left The Crying Spell in order to pursue other endeavors and was subsequently replaced by Jason Phraner.
In early 2012, the band released their sophomore album ''Disgraceland'', but only to European fans while they were touring with the UK-based post-punk band Killing Joke for two months. Soon after the release, they added keyboardist Kevin Preston (also a member of Endless Sunder) to their line-up. In October 2012 they supported the California-based electronic rock band Julien-K (which was formed by two former members of the industrial rock band Orgy) on their tour throughout Germany.
In 2013, bassist Jason Phraner left the band. The band re-released their latest record ''Spectrums of Light'' in March 2015 on Arena Music Promotion. According to the band, the album has even more of an 1980s new wave vibe.
The Crying Spell, winners of the first annual American Family Insurance "Dream Show Seattle" competition, performed to an audience of 67,000 during halftime at the Seattle Seahawks regular season finale on December 28, against the St. Louis Rams.
